President's Message
I have been in Law Enforcement Unions representing and working
as a New York State Security Officer, Correction Officer and Police
Officer since 1956.
The
wages, benefits and working conditions that the active officers enjoy
today where built on the sweat, dedication and hard work of the people
that
they now deprive of health insurance legislation to protect their
families. This
year some of the active police unions stepped forward to
support health
insurance protection but it is too little too late.
Fortunately the light bulb went
off in someone’s head realizing that
they too would be retired one day and what will happen this most
precious benefit of Health Insurance protection.
I for one am fortunate
that I do not need this protection but I feel strongly for those who are
not healthy enough and financially sufficient enough to avail themselves
of this benefit. I urge all of you who are active and retired to step
up
to the plate and support your fellow law enforcement officer
regarding this much needed benefit.
Our counsel Albert J. Pirrro, Jr., has taken a case pro-bono for the City of White Plains Police Officers who retired prior to 1995 wherein the City of White Plains wants them to pay an additional 15% of their health insurance premium. The Pirro group has taken this case to Federal Court and if they win it will be a great victory for all retirees.
Ralph M. Purdy
