National Police Week was once again celebrated with the attendance of over 20,000 law enforcement agencies and survivors of law enforcement officers who were killed in the past and present years at the candlelight ceremony which included the presence of the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and FBI Director Robert Mueller on Friday evening all of whom spoke at the lighting of more than 20,000 candles by those in attendance may 13th.

On Wednesday, May12th, 1,420 officers rode in the memorial area on their motorcycles known as the Police Unity Tour that raised $1.4 million for the building of the National Law Enforcement Museum and the upkeep of the names of those fallen officers that appear on the wall.

As of this year the Police Unity Tour has raised $10 million for the NLEOMF. Numerous events took place from May10th through May 15th, honoring those officers who paid the supreme sacrifice as well as the survivors of those fallen officers. Triad Comes to Caroline County

The Caroline County Sheriff's Office is please to announce the arrival of the TRIAD program. The TRIAD name derives from the three groups responsible for its creation. In 1988, the National Sheriff’s Association, the AARP, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police formed the first TRIAD in Louisiana in an effort to reduce crime against the elderly. TRIAD has since grown into a international program fostering cooperative agreements between local law enforcement, citizens, and

senior organizations. (See more here)

On the Passing of Congressman Jack Kemp

For all true conservatives in America, we have lost one of American's truest champions of conservatives ideals that was fostered by president Ronald Reagan.  Former nine term member of congress from Buffalo, New York, former quarterback for the Buffalo bills, candidate for the office of vice President of the United States of America on the ticket with former Senator Robert Dole.  Congressman Jack Kemp was not only a leading advocate of a major change in our tax structure in the mid 80's, but a true conservative leader in the Republican party.  Congressman Jack Kemp also sought the support and received of our endorsement for re-election all the years he served in congress.

When he ran as Vice President our Federation was privileged to have been invited to a V.I.P. reception at this home in suburban Maryland and met Senator Robert Dole and his family.  Our prayers go out to his family.  Congressman Jack Kemp's contributions to the republican conservative's will long remain as a tribute to his never ending fight to all conservative individuals and the Ronald Reagan philosophy opposing big Government.  Congressman Jack Kemp will surely be missed.

HR-218 Final Decision from NY State

To all New York State Resident Retired Law Enforcement Officers. I have some

bad news.

The State of New York has confirmed what I thought was the case. If you are

a retired law enforcement officer residing in New York State, YOU CANNOT GET

HR-218 QUALIFIED BY ANYONE OTHER THAN THE DEPARTMENT YOU RETIRED FROM.

That means that everyone who took a firearms course with the understanding

that they were being qualified for HR-218, whether or not it was by a

private instructor, a retired or even an active NYPD range officer, a

federal agency or a security guard employer, the course of fire WAS NOT

VALID for HR-218 certification.

Until the state of New York changes it's mind, only the NYPD can certify

retirees for HR-218 and they have said, "NO ONE, NO WAY"!

Police Week in Washington D.C.

I attended the 15th Annual Top Cops Award Dinner sponsored by NAPO. I was honored at the Chairman’s Dinner seated at the head table. Chairman Craig Floyd, Executive Director of the Police Memorial announced that the United Federation of Police Officers, Inc., was the longest serving member and charter member of the Memorial 26 years. I was deeply moved by his announcement in front of more than 300 invited guests. I had the honor of being seated next to the Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives Congressman Steny Hoyer whom I have known personally for close to 26 years a “true friend of Police Officers”.

While at the Candle Light Ceremony I met Officer Sean O’Mally, a Police Officer in Ireland he stated that the Police just had legislation signed into law creating a Police Memorial for those officers killed in the line of duty. He must have been impressed with the information I provided him regarding our Memorial in Washington D.C. due to the fact he presented me with cuff links which I want you to have as a life long Irish American.  The inscription on the cuff links state “Garda Siochana” Police Officers of Ireland.

I would guesstimate that over 25,000 people attended the services this Police Week.
