FBI statistics reveal majority of officers feloniously killed by those with prior criminal arrsts.

From 2001-2010 there were 587 known offenders in connection with felonious officer deaths, and 483 (82.2%) had prior criminal arrest; 375 (63.8%) convicted on prior criminal charge; 101 (17.2%) received juvenile conviction on prior criminal charge; 304 (51.7%) received parole/probation on prior criminal charge. Prior arrests were for: crime of violence (261); murder (26); drug law violation (262); assaulting an officer/resisting arrest (133); weapons violation (226). .

And more than one-in-four (27.9%) were under judicial supervision at the time.

Of the 587 known offenders, 164 (27.9%) of them were under judicial supervision at the time

of the incident; 80 (13.6%) were on probation; 54 (9%) on parole; 3 (0.5%) in halfway house; 8 (1.3%) escapees from penal institutions; 18 (3%) conditional release, pending criminal prosecution; one not reported.
